Zendaya Coleman
Zendaya Coleman was born September 1, 1996 in Oakland, California, USA and
currently plays the role of Rocky Blue on Disney's Shake it Up! along with
Bella Thorne. Disney Channel describes Rocky Blue as sweet, smart and responsible,
a good girl who is sometimes too good for her own good.
Zendaya, means "to give thanks" in the language of Shona, now lives in Los
Angeles, California with her family and her dog, named Midnight. She was a part
of the California Shakespearean Theatre where she would help out in the theatre
and at times get to take part in plays. Before she hit it big with Disney's
Shake it Up! Zendaya was a fashion model for stores such as Macy's, Old Navy,
Sears, and Mervyn's. she was also a featured performer in the Kidz Bop music
video for its cover version of the song Hot n Cold.
She also attended Oakland School for the Arts, and starred as a young Ti Moune
in Once on This Island at the Berkley Playhouse and has a breakout role as the
male character Joe in Caroline. She also studied at the Cal Shakes Conservatory
program and at the American Conservatory Theater. Some other stage credits include
Richard III, Twelfth Night, and As You Like It.
Zendaya has said "If I could have a dancing with the stars partner it would be
Michael Jackson, but since I can't any more - sadly - it would be Roshon Fegan."
Some other interest includes singing and designing clothes. She hopes that just
as theater led her to television, Shake It Up! will lead her to opportunities
in the music industry. In October 2010, Zendaya told Variety "I love singing
and would love to record an album at some point."
