Brightburn

A couple unable to conceive desperate for a child one night while bemoaning this fact a light streak across the skies and buries into their fields, it is a child they raise this child as their own, sounds familiar I am sure it does. The twist in this is this super child is not help to humanity but an evil presence with frightening powers.

Brightburn is an interesting idea that ultimately falls flat, this mesh of superhero movies and the evil child genre that frankly is overdone fails to deliver to the discriminating viewer, those who love B movie thrill will ultimately be satisfied and rush home to give it a 10 on IMDB but this film on that scale deserves no more than a generous 3.

The film is also unnecessarily brutal to live up to its R rating with a fair share of gore, the story is also rushed as they seem to fly by any attempts to develop sympathetic characters and run for the blood and gory kills.

After the baby lands and the parents are all feeling blessed with this child from the skies, one would think any right thinking person would find this weird but never the less we are then treated to grainy super 8mm type footage of a child being happily raised. This child never gets sick or gets hurt does not bleed again one might find this strange but the merry mother is blind. When he turns 12 some switch is turned on it seems and he instantly becomes Damien and again any strange hints are explained away as puberty, funny I can't recall mine being that way?

Someone mentioned a lot of 9 and 10 ratings at IMDB but sadly these ratings do not hold the credibility they once did, a person is entitled to their own opinion you might say 10 I say 3 but sadly paid reviewers and even bot ratings are suspected to be a problem now on that platform.

I wanted to like it but ultimately can't is it worth seeing, sure if you like this kind of stuff but be warned for young kids that might tag along it is gory, the actor Jackson A. Dunn is fine in his role but other than that this is a fail.

I would give it a 2, not a 1 and the same people that would give this a 10 would also give stuff like "The Last House on the Left," "The Hills Run Red,"  "I Spit on Your Grave" etc 10s and give "The Shawshank Redemption" and The Godfather a 1.

Bland, generic and feels rushed with a weak script but competent acting from the cast the boy Jackson is fine but the movie is a let down the idea behind it is great but ultimately ends up not delivering unless your thing is cheap jump scares.

The jump scare loving crown will say how scary it is but this is not a scary movie, I mean quick but aways and sudden loud sounds will not do it for the discriminating moviegoer. The rushed aspect the baby and his childhood is told with grainy super 8mm type home movies he hits puberty and instantly becomes this murderous villain, why is he doing this? it is never explained. This movie as I mentioned if jump scares and gory kills the crowd that loves that will eat it up.

3 out of 10 IMDB stars.

OK, so all you college guys that have been here a long time I know you know your movies and on IMDB those that gave it low rating say about same as you guys do.

So really what you are saying is that people that are like movie fans and know what to look for are giving low ratings and fans that just love cheap thrill give it 10s. OK I am younger and I thought it was cool but my parents thought it was cheap thrills, lol but kids it is also gory as you see in the R rating.

Oh so Brightburn has opened in the US, it opens here in the UK on June 19, I want to see it due to the freaky trailer.

Passable Drive-In movie, plot holes galore, rushed with no character development, jump scares some tension, perfect as the main feature at your Drive-In double or triple bill.

Jackson A. Dunn is effective in his role.

Well, it seems all the college guys and many of the film students here did not think too much of it, well I am glad my parents wanted to see it and I went along. I thought it was freeking awesome and scared the heck out of me in some smarts, add this kid to the list of movie evil kids for sure.

Meh! it was so so, nothing to go crazy over it is short and more bloody than anything else with the kind of frights where things jump out and you hear loud noises, you know cheap scares but I would not walk out of watching it but also it is nothing I am going to say I have to see that again.

    That is my two cents.
